Rcently flew HNL-SYD on Hawaiian Airlines and upon arrival in Sydney the aircraft was sprayed. I asked a friend of mine who flew back from HNL-SYD on QF if their plane was sprayed on arrival and he said it wasn't.
Anyone know why the HA planes are sprayed and not the QF ones??
About every Couple of weeks each plane is sprayed. I was on Hawaiian a couple of weeks ago and the staff said it mainly due to the fact that we came in from an island. Other international flights are done at random as well.
All aircraft are treated for insects, but there are various approved ways of doing it. Using a residual spray is one way, and likely what Qantas use, as it is certified for 8 weeks. The other ways (at top of descent, after arrival), the spray is certified for that arrival only.

Airline can either choose to have a permanent spray applied on a regular basis or do ad hoc spraying per aircraft

Last December I flew HA from HNL-SYD and upon arrival the aircraft was sprayed as well. Didn't take long.
