Hi all, Has anything changed since May that stops you booking an american airlines flight on the US website (USD) while using an australian credit card. I was able to book a flight no problem in May but can not tonight. When I change the country to Australia in the payment section it asks me to search again through the australian country site, when i do the flight that was 616 USD (900 Aud approx) becomes almost 3500 Aud.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all.

I've booked directly on the US website with an Australian CC and there's been no issues for me.

We've had some problems findng our booking (made via a travel agent) from the AA US site. We only found it after finding it via the AU mirror site.
I guess it even effects online bookings.
What a disgrace. First the Aadvantage programme, now this. The US Air execs are truly crapping things up!

Something ha changed in the last few months with AA seemingly wanting you to book through the AA AU site which can be more expensive.
Solutions I have found.
Put fare on hold.. You then get an email which doesn't have the same country restrictions.
Put your country as United States accidentally. Full in remainder of address as best you can with a 0 in front of 4-digit Aus postcode

Do you know if travel agents are able to book the fares from the US site?
Do different fare rules apply?
More importantly, what aspect of your credit card detail is actually required? Does it differ according to the method of transaction, e.g. online versus manual swipe/chip-pin?
Theoretically if your number, expiry date and CCV checks out, does the transaction only get approved when your number reconciles to your billing address? If that is the requirement,
So the upshot: Can you just leave the "country" field on the AA booking page as the USA, select "states" as Pacific (new field for US armed forces) and then put your 4-digit AU postcode with a zero in front as suggested?
Will the transaction get rejected?

Hi everyone for the messages. By chance I have found how to get around this. When you are at the home page simply select country of residence as "others" on the US website and then it will let you pay with your australian credit card no problem. Just saved alnost $2000 AUD for the same flight this way.
Thanks again for the help though.

I had the same problem in July - I ended up booking via expedia. Nice to see there is a direct work around. In my case the fligth was 200USD vs 1100AUD. Doesn't make sense.
I have also used their vacations site to book a package, and just put in my address with false Zip and Country. and that worked as well.

Hi. I am also having the same issue. With holding the booking- it still wants me to research through the Australian website.

I just came across this issue booking flights from JFK->YYZ. Rather frustrating to get to the end of the whole process (entering details, picking seats, payment details) for the whole process to be restarted when I followed their instructions to change credit card location to Australia.
Then salt in the wound when the price went from $668AUD (equiv) to $880AUD when it redirected me to the aussie site!
Ummm no. SO apparently my credit card billing address is accidentally in WASHINGTON US (I swear I entered WA for West Australia...). CC has been charged, still awaiting tickets.
Edit: After a slightly anxious wait, tickets have been confirmed.
