OK I'm aware I'm not going to find the world's best lounge at JNB.... But which is the better of the lot? I'm QF Gold flying economy unless my upgrade comes through (ughhh). Thanks!
Hi Ollie - presume you're departing on QF64 and therefore talking about the international side of the terminal. There isn't a whole lot of choice at JNB for Oneworld customers - most of the lounges are contract operations. QF will direct you to the Shongololo Lounge, a third-party contract lounge operated by Menzies. It's actually quite a nice lounge with a good spread of food, though not great if looking for a space to work. You may need to collect an invitation at check-in, I have heard of eligible customers being denied without the written invitation. It's furnished in a safari style and is a good place to relax.
Your other option is the BA Galleries lounge. A more conventional lounge, but also good - decent food and probably better for work, with fast wi-fi and dedicated work spaces. In case you're arriving early, the BA lounge only opens between 3pm and 9pm.
If you are a QF platinum member - you can go into the British Airways First class lounge. That kicks the Shongololo lounge. The first class lounge is next the normal BA one.
