Who would be the winners?
Who will be the losers?
What will be the unintended consequences?
Personally, l don't think QF ever will. Too many, me included, would rocket through the status tiers to Platinum!
Qantas aren't about to devalue their product, as stated below.
QF Plat (Excerpt)
Highly exclusive privilege, service and recognition
As some of our most highly valued members, our Platinum Frequent Flyers enjoy all the benefits of gold, plus exclusive services, rewards and special privileges in recognition of their continued loyalty to Qantas

I think a challenger player like VA needs the likes of these perks, but for QF it would lead to all sorts of issues operationally. I must admit it is such a handy perk with VA, but ultimately all the FF who earn status in their own right would lose out as benefits become diluted.

Platinum is and should be rarefied air.... the whole point is it should be exclusive and pooling credits would be counter-productive and devalue it significantly. I am Gold and that took me 10 months of solid flying to reach; I hope to reach platinum in the next 12 months however it will take ALOT of travel and if and when I get there I want to be in a VERY exclusive club. For instance I want to be pretty much guaranteed status upgrades on international flights and not be in lounges with half the airport.
As an aside, does anyone know how many Gold, Platinum and Platinum One members there are?

Also as a Platinum member, don't get too excited. Its not something that I will look to chase in the future. Its not something that I would consider exclusive. Platinum One is exclusive, but even less worth chasing.

The only real value from QFF P is the ability to request Award tickets when none are showing. Yes the qf F lounge and CX F lounges are great but many ports offer fairly average J lounges when you have P or P1, look at thee SIN qf business lounge, full of Qantas club members travelling on JQ, packed to the eyeballs with fairly average food ( the food in the hawker centre is miles better)

I don't think it matters if they offer family pooling!

Obanpoints agree with you about requesting award tickets, IMO the pest perk.
Jeff after reading your post I was curious and looked at Qantas redemptions in Oct 17, not knowing your circumstances, I did searches for 2xAdults and 2x Kids return SYD-LHR and SYD-CDG, there were economy seats available each way almost every day to LHR and CDG. There was also good business class availability to CDG with EK and QR.
In my experience I have found it easier to get international rewards with QF than it has been with VA (I am top tier with both carriers), I know there will be those who will disagree.
