Very clever tip, this is what I have done, when the Austrian post office sees an address in say "Sydney NSW Australia" they figure it's a common mistake and redirect the letter to Australia. But anyway you don't really need anything in paper from BAEC, you get the membership number immediately when you sign up online, that's all you need.

They've also got a decent iPhone app that includes a digital card. For membership queries over the phone, you're best to call the US number for early/morning in Oz, the SG or HK number from noon to 7/8pm AEST and the UK number in the evening. You're likely to get the same Indian call centre for all three numbers. If you're BA Gold calling the UK number you may be connected to the Manchester call centre during UK working hours. The Indian call centre staff are however relatively well trained, both technically as well as "culturally" trained - they don't though adopt silly "western" names like other Indian call centres.
TRB I had a great experience with the Indian call center when I had an issue booking a flight online. Also my call dropped out due to poor reception on my phone and they called me back. Saved me having to explain the whole situation again to a new person.

@sid,
Yep! Geo-blocking is soooo last decade!
McLuhan popularised the term "Global Village" in the 60s...corporations need to get with the programme!
