Advertised: 500+ TV Shows, 888 CDs, 70+ Video Games and 22 Radio Channels, according to Cathay Pacific.

Reality: In F/J, you get full contents that advertised, however, in PEY and Y, contents available is less than advertised, according to some flyers who flown CX countless times.

Its that true of false? Thanks.

Can't say I've flown Cathay "countless" times - a mere 61 flights in the past 5 years - but I can attest that Cathay in-flight content is exactly the same in all classes. And it's pretty good too - not as much choice as Singapore but better than Qantas.

Cathay shows exactly the same content on StudioCX no matter if you're in first, business, premium economy or economy. Only difference is size of the screen, provision of noise-cancelling headphones and the quality & quantity of drinks and nibbles supplied while you binge-view. The further you are seated towards the front of the plane, the better all of those get.

The only time I've seen a smaller selection of content was on the Brisbane-Cairns-Hong Kong flight.

Movies were unable (did not even appear greyed out, it just wasn't there) for the Brisbane to Cairns flight but upon reboarding in Cairns the full selection became available.

It must have something to do with flight duration. I've had flights between HKG/PEK and HKG/TPE where the selection were somewhat limited, even in J, but the medium and long haul flights always had a full selection. Perhaps they want to only show content that you can finish during the flight? The CX IFE does have warnings about "There are not enough flight time left to finish this movie" blah blah blah.

Yes, as with most airlines the selection is different for short, medium and long haul. You can enter your route on the CX website to see the selection for a flight. But on any particular flight, there is no difference between the classes.

Flown KA in F (A33R, upgraded when J is full) and CX in J (A33K) on HKG-PEK-HKG trip.
Both flights have plenty of movies available, same as longhaul flights to Australia. It does warn you about flight time and cutoff quickly after landing announcement from captain. (Then looping gate and transit information, tons and tons of ads and flight map)
