Announcement this morning that Qantas has partnered with Netflix and Foxtel for streaming content on its inflight Internet service. Given how many times I see people sitting on a flight watching downloaded videos on their smartphone or tablet with the volume turned up and not wearing any headphones, just the sound blaring out through the speakers, I am not looking forward to having to put up with more of this as each Qantas aircraft gets inflight Internet access. I just hope that the Qantas cabin crew are very much on top of their game when it comes to asking passengers to plug in headphones "for the convenience and consideration of others" sitting around them!

To be honest, I have never seen anybody try watch something without headphones. I would be surprised if anything was audible over the sound of the engines.

Then again, a set of half decent headphones blocks out everyone else's noise.
But still... no headphones... really?

Yes, they hold it up close to them and watch it. Mostly happens on iPhones, very very annoying because of the tinny speaker turned up so loud that you can hear it from the row in front or behind.

More of a lounge problem than inflight...

I'm sure Qantas crew will be trained to suggest said offender plug in headphone or turn the device off!

Does Qantas streaming on 737 support HBO GO and Hulu? Gogo on most US domestic planes don't, even paid.

Except JetBlue does offer free streaming (even faster if you buy high speed Wi-Fi)

I'd seen it happen on the 767's with the Q Streaming iPads.

A few of the flights didn't have the headphone adapter in the iPad and quite a few people decided to start watching programs without headphones. The crew did remind them to use headphones or turn it off in a nice quite way without making to mush of a fuss.

It's amazing how selfish some people are, I had no problems asking some annoying kid playing a game full volume in a lounge on an ipad's parents the other day to think of using headphones, they looked at me like it was unreasonable not to have everyone in the lounge endure the noise rather than actually be a parent.

I had one instance a while back where a group of three sitting behind me decided they all wanted to listen to music out of one device ... and sing along!
