The alliance needs re-approval by the authorities sometime around then is my understanding. Approval has not yet been sought. Perhaps they are waiting for this? I hope the alliance is not dropped as we all lose 1 stop connections to most of Europe. Hopefully Henrus your original hypothesis is correct.

The ACCC QF/EK alliance antitrust approval expires March 31 2018.
They first applied in Sep 2012 asking for 10 years. They got interim approval in Jan 2013 whereupon they started selling tickets under the alliance and the ACCC gave final approval for 5 years in March 2013.

Part me of me was thinking this has to be a lag in the system, Qantas wouldn't be that stupid to force BNE pax to fly via Perth.  So I got on the website and had a look at BNE to LHR and it's via PER!!!!  But BNE - CDG either via PER or via SYD to DXB then CDG.  WOW!!!!!

No need to panic, folks. Here's BNE-DXB on 30 March. and DXB-BNE on 7 April. 3834/5 showing as operated by A380.

And here's BNE-LHR 30 March. Still as codeshare on EK, not forcing you to go via PER.
