Could someone please assist? I am taking QF5 to FRA in May. I am aware QANTAS have recently upgraded or are in the process of upgrading their 747/744. Can anyone confirm if QF5 is currently operated by refurbished 747 as various websites are reporting majority but not all 747's have/will be upgraded. Most would indicate QF is still being operated by an older 3 Class Config.
What date in May are you flying - I can then find out through Amadeus CRS the configuration of the plane (I will fly the same route on 27Feb and QF uses one of the refurbished planes on that day).
Brilliant, I fly out May 1st 2013. I just spent 9 hours each way on Thai's unrefurbished and less than pleasant older 744, ideally I prefer not to fly on something just as outdated for a longer period.
Bad news, I am afraid - at this stage all QF5 flights from 25April to 10 May (ie including 1 May) all sport the old - unfurbished - conifiguration, ie 56 business, 40 premium economy and 275 economy. (Interestinly though, Amadeus shows the flights on 6 and 8 May as 'cancelled'). But it may be worthwhile checking again later, as my flight on 27 Feb originally showed the old configuration and was subsequently replaced by a refurbished 744.
I would also not be surprised if QF5 changes substantially once the QF/EK deal is approved.... At present they can't even talk to each other as interim ACCC authorisation has not been granted.
You may find yourself heading on a QF plane to DXB, then EK to FRA.
My understanding is QF5/6 will stay active until October this year however you are correct in saying moa999 more then likely things will start to change as the merge becomes official. I could only hope we are transferred to a DXB flight to take up a superior product. I have done the flight before, as long as the flight is I'd rather fly with some comfort.
