I'm planning on booking a trip to Tokyo next week for 6 days, and i'm looking at a night flight, either Qantas or Ana as they both have a night flight which will maximize my time in Japan. (Both around 8pm)
Just wanted to know is the Qantas 747 on this route (Syd-Tokyo) refurbished or is usually an older model? I am flying economy and wanted to know if the seats/entertainment are new?
You can see the history of aircraft allocation on TheQantasSource route tracker page. Look for VH-OEB or VH-OJM for the 2 non reburbished 747s, or just F seating in the configuration column. About 50% in the last week, but less than that on average over May. Can also check the future allocations on ExpertFlyer, but limited searches without subscribing. No guarantee you won't get a change after booking.
Amadeus GDS gives me the old unrefurbished 744 (the one with F upfront) for 5 Jun, and refurbished plane for 6-10 June (however, it has happened to me in the past that the plane was switched 24 hours before departure). I hope this helps.
