Hi there - I signed up for an AMEX explorer card just before an overseas business trip and spent the required $1,500 to pick up the 100,000 membership rewards bonus points.
Those 100,000 points are worth 75,000 Krisflyer miles or 75,000 velocity points. I just made silver on Krisflyer and am about to drop off Platinum on Velocity.
Given 1 Krisflyer mile can be converted to 1.35 Velocity points - can I convert those membership points to Krisflyer miles, THEN convert those miles into Velocity points - making my 100,000 AMEX points ACTUALLY worth 101,250 Velocity points?
Seems too good to be true but wanted to ask the collective brains trust out there in case I'm missing something....
1 KrisFlyer mile costs 1.35 Velocity points when transferring from Velocity to KrisFlyer, however this does not mean that 1 KrisFlyer mile buys 1.35 Velocity points when transferring the other way.
Regardless of the direction of transfer, 1.35 miles/points from the source program buys 1 point/mile in the target program.
Now I need to work out what's more valuable - using this to get to 100,000 krisflyer miles or 200,000 velocity points... given I mostly use these for upgrades on international flights I need to think carefully!
Hi Guest, join in the discussion on
AMEX points --> Krisflyer --> Velocity = winning?
