Option to Follow posts

With the option to enable "Notify me (by email) when further comments are added" making an awesome option to receive future updates, I wonder if it's possible to enable an option to flag an article or thread for ongoing updates even if we haven't commented... That way we can flag in, and out as we please, but it would also prevent people (like myself), posting needless comments on a post just to get the updates, because it's a subject of interest, rather than because they're constructive responses. 

I'd be interested in hearing what other people think on this,
