I am holidaying in the Canada west coast next year. Starting in Calgary and finishing in Anchorage. Appreciate advice on best route to/from Sydney on oneworld airlines ?
probably qantas when they fly direct seasonally but otherwise maybe cathay pacific or japan airlines, unless you'd rather connect to american in the US.
but status wise you'd be best to book through the Qantas site and book whatever flights have a QF code
You can go SYD - HKG - LAX - YVR which will increase your status credits earn via OW (QF/CX). Only problem with maximising credits/points focus is where (you) want to draw the line on the number of stops. More stops = more status credits/points. Happy flying!
Thanks for the suggestions. I will explore further. I found a LAX to Calgary flight with a QF flight number but oneworld seems to have few options for Anchorage. Was thinking of going to Vancouver after Anchorage. The qantas system suggested Anchorage - DFW - which is a long way round for a 3 hour direct flight. My options may be to purchase a one way flight from Anchorage to Vancouver to LAX. Then LAX to SYD on QF. Will look at CX as that may offer Vancouver - HKG - SYD as a return. Alternative suggestions welcome.
Vancouver is a special place don't miss it. I work for a mining company so we travel to Vancouver a lot. Recommended is Syd-Auckland- LA-Vancouver. Can do direct with Air Canada but not oneworld I believe.
Alaskan Airlines (AS) are going to be your best friend in tying this journey up. The best transit point for you will be SEA when looking to fly YYC-ANC with geographical sense in mind. Failing that, LAX might also be an option. For unique routing with sensible geography still considered to/from SYD-YYC, why not try via Fiji on FJ to still boost status credits or HNL with QF/AA? Going via Asia is the long way round!

I think QF code share with Alaska to SEA from LAX and SFO so probably also out of ANC.
