I have a trip to Europe coming up on Etihad, and am a velocity gold. My flight from Sydney lands at T3 at Abu Dhabi, and the ongoing flights to Europe should depart from the same terminal. It seems that according to Virgin's website, Gold members only have access to a lounge at T1. Any suggestions what can I do? my connection time is 3 hours, so I can really use a shower and a place to relax.
Yes, I suspect you will have time to access the lounge. It is quite likely the Al Reem lounge will be very busy (it was on both occasions I visited). As for grabbing a shower it can be very difficult in this lounge - there is only one or two cubicles to share between a huge number of travelers as it is also a Priority Pass lounge. Personally I left the lounge ahead of time as it was quite hot and crowded. I still enjoyed it though as it let me have a pretty good breakfast before departing for Europe/Australia.
Lounge veterans always say and you never believe it until you're one: enjoy the destination/holiday - the lounge is just a perk along the way. Europe is spectacular.
The walk between each terminal takes about 10 minutes and can be done 'airside', so you don't need to clear immigration or anything like that. Just allow ample time to reach your gate, and on the way back to Australia, to clear at-gate security where the typical 'liquid check' is carried out.
