I'm flying CX in two days and return back a week after. I will be going upto QF Platinum after completing the first part of the journey. Is there a way to expedite the status credits accrual at all (this way i can use CX First Class lounge in HKG on the way back)?
Unfortunately not. Cathay Pacific status credits generally post to Qantas Frequent Flyer once per week (off the top of my head, I believe it's on Tuesdays) - but if they do appear while you're away and your status climbs to Platinum (Oneworld Emerald), it should appear on your boarding pass for the flight home. If not (and you can see you're Platinum through the Qantas app or website), just ask CX to remove and re-enter your frequent flyer number, which should 'refresh' your status information, and generate an invitation to the CX Pier or Wing first class lounges.
I can't speak for CX, but same happened to me back a few years back, going up from Gold to Platinum mid-trip on LATAM. LATAM Brazil (then recently ex-TAM) did not recognise it, but once I reached SCL LATAM had it in their system and gave me the Platinum perks, so I'd guess that you'd be in with a reasonable chance with Cathay.
As for the CX lounges ... The Pier or the The Wing!? Oh I think I prefer the The Pier! (Talk about a first world dilemma!)
Chris: there might be a reader poll required!

I am new to ausbt but have been a QClub and FF member since 1995. I had a "chat" online with Qantas FF today and they could not (because the system was "restricted") tell me how many status credits I would earn flying CX Brisbane to Paris premium economy. CX has a fare of $7800 (better than Qantas) but I cannot see what status credits I earn. My planning efforts to date for the trip (Aug 18) show me that the amount of status credits earned with Qantas FF may well decide whether I spend more funds with one airline over another. Could any of you more regular travellers advise me

Good luck. Hope you get to The Wing or The Pier F Lounges. I think The Wing F may be the best airline lounge in the world.

If it helps, I flew CX last week and went up a QF status tier the day before. CX had the correct one world tier in their system.

check the qantas calculator on QF site - shows you points and SC for any airline and most routes within the OW network
