Does anybody know what's the eligibility criteria to qualify for a bid upgrade? I usually travel not on sale fares and I've never been eligible and was wondering why I never get targeted (I would easily bid for an upgrade).
Similar experience here (and I'm QF Gold). Silvyvc, out of interest do you commonly book via a travel agent or book with Qantas direct ? I've often wondered whether this could be a contributing factor.
Same here, QF gold and no chance... I would believe that they would favour loyal customers... I usually book via Qantas directly. I just don't understand the logic behind getting invited for a bid upgrade.
I think it's likely to be route/passenger volume dependant. Then followed by a combination of how many points you have and your status. I have been told that Qantas gets very keen for individuals to start using their points once they pass a certain threshold. Domestically when I've been offered 'Bid now', the flights tended to be weekend or late evening flights (on a range of sale and non sale fares) I've also received targeted emails for 'classic upgrade rewards' not used them, and then had 'bid now' upgrade emails come through a week or so later for the same flight. Internationally, I've been offered them flying SYD-LDN and SYD- SIN when flying as a Silver QFF/QC for mid-week departures.
