Qantas Club expired just prior to getting Gold. Can I rejoin QP without having to pay joining fee?

My Qantas Club membership expired prior to becoming Gold so I didn't bother renewing it. Can I rejoin the club without having to pay for the joining fee again?

I would think you would have to pay the joining fee again, I went the other way and purposely renewed mine a few weeks before I knew I would get to Gold a few years ago to ensure my QC would tack onto the end of my Gold status when that eventually happens, as I knew I would be unlikely to get lifetime Gold, further to this the cost of the QC was tax deductible in that year and yet I will be enjoying the access after I stopped working and had retired, but everyone has different circumstances.

Best to ring them and ask. When this happened to me a few years ago when I moved to VA, I started to get emails and letters from Qantas asking if I would like to re-join and they would remove the joining fee if I did.
