I’m looking at going on a trip this year using my points.
I’m wanting to use the points and most efficiently. I don’t really care if I need to pay for small flights to save the points.
Departing Sydney and I’m platinum FF
I’m wanting to travel to:
1. Oregon, Portland
2. Seattle, Washington
3. Vancouver, Canada
My original thought was:
Sydney to San Francisco (points)
San Francisco to Portland (money + plane)
Portland to Seattle (drive)
Seattle to Vancouver (drive)
Vancouver to Sydney (points)
But I feel like that is not the best possible way! I’m easy as to which class to travel either economy or business. I just don’t want to waste my points and also don’t want to pay heaps in taxes and fees!
What does everyone think? Any chance anyone could suggest better options?
I’m looking atgoing for about 2 weeks in March or April.
You should check if your travel plans may fit or be able to be adapted into doing a Round The World trip. If they will then a Round The World trip on points (140K points for economy, 280K points for Business, 420K points for First) could offer you much better value.

Thanks mviy! I’m looking at round-the-world ticket now. But I’m thinking there might be a better way for my flying. Any suggestions?Â
I've done that trip before. Flew to LAX QF and then took an Alaskan Airlines up to Seattle. Those domestic legs are pretty cheap and flying to LAX would give you the most award availability to the USA and more flight frequencies.
I then drove to Portland and Canada from there - the drive to Portland is easy.
Worth a note - driving back from Vancouver to Seattle - allow at least 2 hours at the border. I missed my flight back to LAX.
