I recently flew Thai Airways and took 2 flights with them. One on the 787 Dreamliner and the other on the new Airbus A350.

I prefer the A350 over 787. I don't find 787 worth the hype. A380s are by far the best planes so far...

I fully agree with you. The A380 is superb and a very close second is the A350. I loved flying both of these and they are way ahead of the B787 in all respects as far as passenger comfort is concerned. Airbus make great earoplanes to passenger in. Beautiful!!!

What were the key factors that made the A350/380 a better travel experience for you compared the 787 ? For example, was it the legroom, general cabin spaciousness, cabin noise, overhead locker storage, speed of embarkation/disembarkation, bathrooms, etc etc ... Was the travel class economy ?

I’ve flown both Y and J in the 787’s and only Y in the A380 and A350.

Personally the 787 is quieter be seated at the back, next to an exit and the front. I felt more refreshed after a 10 hour flight on the 787 than on a 6 hour short flight on the A350... A380 does feel bigger and have somewhat small amount of extra leg room but it doesn’t feel overly more than on the 787. A350 felt tighter around the knees and I am quite tall.
787 for me.

Are we talking about things that aren't specifically Airbus or Boeing features on the aircraft such as the seats etc in determining if one aircraft is better than the other?

I totally agree. Since the aircraft interiors/seats/fit-out are entirely at the discretion of the operator (not the manufacturer), these should not be taken as criteria to say one aircraft is superior to the other.

Provided we are comparing the same cabin product (seats), I'll take the 787 over A350 every day of the week. There's a greater sense of space, better overhead storage and larger lavatories. Interestingly, SQ cabin crew have mentioned on recent flights how dysfunctional the A350's galley is, and how it affects their service compared to their A380 and 777.

I've now flown several of each of the A350 and B787 and of various airlines.

I note I am less thirsty on the A350 and my eyes don't dry out so much.
I found the A350 quieter on more occasions too, but could be load, air density etc. (Business class, over wings on all flights)
Seats depend on the airline not the plane so cannot use as a criterion but the 'feel' is that the A350 is wider and roomier even if on paper it isn't.

I have flown on both the 350 (with SQ and Qatar) and the 787 (Qatar)

I can say I found the A350 more comfortable and certainly with more leg room.
The 787 cabin ambiance is a better feel than the 350, but saying that I felt better and more refreshed after getting off the A350. (all flights greater than 7.5 hours, A350 7,5 & 12.5 hours)

Boeing really need to fix the window shades on the 787. They might dim the outside light but they don't keep out the sun. On a recent 787 flight from ICN to LHR I had the sun shining in my face for around 6 hours and couldn't block it out. A350 is my preferrence.

Agreed. They also badly reflect light from other parts of the cabin.

I tend to agree with the comments about the windows, they do not lead to a total "black out" as is necessary, in particular, on long haul flights.

I think apart from that, however, these issues really come down to how most carriers choose to configure the cabin. This is not something which has anything to do with the aircraft itself. Once one moves away from this issue, I think the comments really come down to subjective opinion based on personal experience. Not a basis, in my opinion, for making an informed assessment about whether one aircraft is superior to the other.

I've done the same comparison...Air New Zealand B787-9 and Latam A350. I also prefer the A350 as an aircraft..it's economy seating plan is a little less cramped than B787. Air New Zealand has VERY GOOD service.
I have made sound pressure level tests on many aircraft, all measurements being made in the economy part of the plane exactly on the leading edge of the wing. A380 is the most quiet aircraft, followed closely by A350, then B787, A330, A320, B777, B737. B787's got a problem with the window shades emitting heat and not fully shutting out the light.

For me the 787 beats the others because of the fresh cabin air it takes directly from outside, rather than through the engines. This fresh air has higher humidity, which, along with the higher oxygen levels in a cabin at 6,000ft pressure (as also on A350 and 380) is the key to my feeling refreshed rather than dehydrated and fatigued, when I disembark. I've flown each of these 3 a/c with the same cabin product in J with QR. I genuinely felt physically better arriving in DOH after 12 hours from Tokyo than I did when I boarded.

Last year I flew DOH-SIN in A350, expecting it to be as good, but it wasn't, so I changed my flight home to fly ex KUL on a 787.

I don't find much noticeable difference in noise inside the cabins they're all good. Noise is influenced by aircraft weight. I noticed last month that my Thai A380, completely full in all cabins, BKK-LHR 12 hours, was noticeably noisier on takeoff than on a QR 380 doing the six hours to LHR.

Comparing same airline same seat manufacturer, and having done several flights (business) on both, A350 is a winner. No centre overhead bins on the 359 gives a great sense of space, environmentals are great although there is not too much in it when comparing to the 788. Re a comment on SQ 359, the seat choice is a worry - see some of the pics on how you need to angle your feet to be comfortable (unless foot size < ~34/ 6!).

Pilots view seems to favour fly-by-wire.
