Flying Upperclass(rewards) to HKG early May with Virgin Atlantic ex SYD. do they have a lounge in SYD and HKG and are they any good?

In Sydney they use the Air NZ lounge which in my opinion is pretty ordinary - nothing like the Singapore Airlines lounges or Qantas lounges. Don't make a point of getting to the airport early for it!
HK they have a Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, however have not been in this as yet.

HKG Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse is quite good; if you have to arrive early it is a good place to relax.
I think most readers on this site would agree that the Air NZ SYD lounge is pretty average as per the comment above.

Agree with the AirNZ lounge comment. Was in there June last year and is OK, but seems to be shared by quite a few airlines and was reasonably busy, wifi wasn't the best either. Am going overseas again in May this year and booked last year and was looking forward to sampling the rumoured Etihad/Virgin lounge, but as the update in December last year highlighted, this will not commence until the right "space" is located at Sydney Airport. So unless some space becomes available or the Airport undergoes some renos I can't see this joint lounge coming to fruition anytime soon. Haven't been to Hong Kong lounge.

I really enjoy the VA lounge in HK, it is right near the gate, and works like a restaurant (a-la-carte).
Never crowded and nearly everyone there will be on the flight (though it does code-share the lounge with Eva Air (Taiwan airline).
Enjoy the VA bar on the flight too, a good way to pass a few hours chatting to the FA or other passengers if you dont want to sleep.
Cheers

Thankyou all for the information on the VA Lounges in Syd and HKG. Bit dissapointing about Syd as I wanted a "special" start for our trip (wifes birthday). I guess we'll just celebrate at the VA bar in flght.
