Champagne from plastic cups. Sandwiches you can lose a tooth on. Toilets closed, asking us to use the facilities outside, by the gate. What the duck Qantas!? I don’t give a flying duck your new lounge isn’t open yet. Work with AA to bring their “premium” lounge to OUR (YOUR) standard. Perhaps AA clients might learn a thing or two and improve things across the despicably sorry state AA lounges are in. That alone is a reason to not fly this QF leg again. Ever.

If you go to the AA lounge in Terminal A you will find it much better, as the current D terminal lounges are being renovated. The terminal A lounge is brand new and has very good showers. Food and booze is AA standard though. I must disagree on not flying via DFW, as I find the DFW flight the best of the QF US flights. The terminal is much easier to navigate than LAX, and the A380 is a joy to fly in even if the interior is in sore need of the makeover it is getting next year. As for lounges work out in advance which are the best ones, as they are all being refurbished over the next few years. Terminal A at the moment is by far the best.

It would have to be pretty grim to compete with the QF HNL lounge. Claustrophobic, overcrowded and garbage food and drink selection.

If you have an AMEX Platinum Charge Card (or a Centurion Card), the AMEX Centurion Lounge is another (better) option.

Wow which lounge did you visit? I usually take the SYD-DFW route and the Terminal A lounges are superb. Mind you I take the AA service to La Guardia and the Terminal D lounges I have not used, just uslaly grab a feed at one of the eateries.

100% agreed. I'm not sure if DFW is getting the Flagship Lounges but tried this at T4 LAX and it was superb. Plus also the QF service gets into DFW around 1pm and so a nice time to get in and connect through to NYC for me, just arriving for dinner.

OP: were you departing on QF8 or arriving on QF7 and heading onward? The lounges Qantas use in D certainly suck but aren’t THAT bad in my experience. Certainly glass not plastic and hot buffet food. The AF lounge used by Qantas in SFO is significantly worse IMHO.

The new AA Flagship lounge at DFW isn’t open yet but the renovated Admirals Clubs in Terminal B, C and D are I believe; only the Club in Terminal A is still under renovation... maybe that’s where you got stuck? The new Flagship Lounges in JFK, MIA and ORD are pretty good. Not quite Qantas First standard but great by US standards.

In terminal D upstairs is a pizza joint and bar which is pretty good. Give that a go next time. Or fly home through LAX ... the lounges in LAX are great.
