Dear all,

Suspect this is an easy one for someone to answer...

I am flying business class from London to Sydney via Abu D and Perth.

It is Etihad metal till Perth. And Virgin Aus from there to Sydney.

The whole thing is under the one booking.

Flight Tracker suggests that I fly into and out of the same airport: Perth international.

Will I need to collect my suitcases in Perth, clear customs in Perth, and then recheck in those suitcases to Sydney?

Or can I interline the suitcases all the way through?

Anyone had a similar experience via Perth?

Appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks,

Neo.

You will have to collect your bags in Perth and clear customs, same with all international to domestic transfers, but thankfully the VA terminal is directly next to the international arrivals exit, and you can recheck your bags there.

Security is usually painless at Perth so you can enjoy the lounge directly next to security.

Three flights if not four arrive at the same time as EY does but be quick and don’t stop at Duty Free - you should be good.

Perth T1 handles international and domestic. At Perth you will need to collect your bag and then go to the Virgin Australia check in area (all very clear and colourful) to check your bag back in.
It's all the same terminal so you don't leave the terminal building.

When you pass through domestic security, the Virgin lounge is directly to the left of security clearance.

Thank you all.

I noticed that Etihad business gives you 12 kg of carry-on (plus suit bag) compared to Virgin's 7kg... how strict do Virgin tend to be when it comes to checking carry-on weight for business class?

Thanks again.

I've done a lot of VA domestic J, and they have never ever checked my carry on size/weight from anywhere.

Having said that, some members recently reported staff were policing carry-on at the Sydney Premium Entry, but once again you'll be fine from Perth as long as your bag doesn't look overly bulky.

Thanks!

I checked their T+C and it looks like the carry-on allowance is based on the airline who ticketed you in the first place.

Nonetheless, I always tend to play these things safe and don't like carrying too much anyway.

Thanks again.
