Just did the exact same thing this week. Had a PE ticket. Went MEL-LHR in PE, and then had a points upgrade for the return on 15 Aug on QF10. I’m lifetime silver and no issues. J was full for the return. I thought both were excellent. PE was very good and very comfortable and I slept very well both ways. Flat bed is always better of course. But found PE service, food and comfort excellent.

Received upgrade from PE on QF9 (MEL-LHR) 2 weeks ago, outbound flight was a Tuesday. Request for the return leg (LHR-PER) tomorrow so far not successful (have Platinum status & requested upgrade months ago). Although more seats have become available for selection in PE today, which would suggest other FFs (hopefully none of them below Plat status) have possibly been upgraded today.
