I am doing a Business class trip to Europe with Finnair in 2 weeks flying to Singapore with Qantas. Mel-Sin-Hel-Osl the Rig-Hel-Sin and because of a stay of 28 hrs in Sin the last leg is on a QF number, I have joined Finnair FF and I am a bronze with Qantas. The question I have is "Which program do I credit the flight with to get the best results in one world?" I do I o/s trip a year, I just do not know enough.
The best results from this trip will certainly be crediting to Finnair. However, long term results may favour QF depending on how much domestic flying you do.
Let’s say you earn 40k miles for this trip and you’ve credited it to finnair. You won’t have enough miles to really get something of great value from that. If you aren’t going to fly finnair religiously every year, you probably won’t ever accrue enough miles with finnair to do something with.
I would think about your future travel plans and then think what may be best. Bring based in Australia Qantas makes it very easy to earn points. The other option maybe cathay, as some aus Amex cards can also earn Asia miles points.
No Aussie Amex cards can earn BA or FINNAIR points, so I would also consider that as CC spend often helps boost your points balance.
You'll earn Silver status in both FF programs after this trip, so take your pick! If you're based in Australia the QF points (around 9k earned) would be more usable domestically.

There is an excellent and easy to use Finnair points calculator - https://www.finnair.com/au/gb/finnair-plus-accrual-calculator
