Qantas Chauffeur Drive - economy ticket prior to Business SYD-LHR

Hi All,

I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be no (and strictly speaking it looks like I'm not eligible) but here's my Q:
I've got a MEL-SYD Qantas Economy ticket. Then SYD-LHR Qantas business same day. Both tickets are return, but are separate tickets.

I'm eligible for Qantas Chauffeur drive in Sydney, but is there a way to use it in Melbourne instead? To merge them onto the one ticket would force an upgrade to Business all the way, costing $4k.

The first lady I called at the Qantas help line thought it should be fine, and told me to call Brunell? the chauffeur company as they do both Sydney and Melbourne. I spoke to them, and they said it should be fine, but they can't book it from their end, but that Qantas has to do it from their end. Then spoke to a Qantas guy who said I wasn't eligible.

Has anyone else had experience with this issue and whether they have managed to have a win? It seems like common sense to me. I guess I could use the chauffeur to get me from the domestic to international terminal in Sydney if all else fails!

Probably makes no diff but I should be Plat by then.

This might clarify the situation

5. Chauffeur Drive is also available in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Perth, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington to passengers travelling on Qantas operated flights that connect to or from an eligible Qantas international flight above (and travelling in First or Business on the eligible international flight) within 6 hours and 24 hours of connection. Customers do not need to be travelling in Business on the domestic or trans-Tasman flight. The Domestic or trans-Tasman flight must be in the same booking as the eligible international flight. Chauffeur Drive is not eligible when transit time is under 6 hours.

Hi Butwhy, I wrote an article about this last month and specifically contacted Qantas for clarification on some of its chauffeur drive rules.

Anyway, the clause Stuart Jackson posted is right - there's no chauffeur drive if the domestic flight is separate from the eligible international flight.

And even if they were in the same booking, your transit in Sydney must be between 6-24 hours for you to be eligible for a chauffeur in Melbourne. No idea why, and Qantas weren't able to explain the rule to me either.

You might be able to convince someone at Qantas to do it for you, but official that's how the rules stand.

Separate tickets, no go. And no-one at QF will be able to override the system to book it.

Oh another thought, my dad needs to get to and from Sydney airport at the same time (same trip, different flight/airline). Any chance I could use my chauffeur drive for him, even though I’m not with him? Do they require ID for the person they pick up? Again I’m guessing not!

You could use it to get yourself from the domestic terminal in Sydney to the international terminal. I did this once when landing VA domestic, leaving EK international.

But since your inbound flight is on QF it's a total waste of time and hassle - take the bus from airside in the QF terminal.

You could probably get away with using it for your Dad, but it's at your own risk, probably not worth it.

I know some people have reported getting away with it, but might be worth adding that technically: "Chauffeur Drive services are not available between airport terminals at any airport."

I think you can definitely use it for your dad, they do not check ID. They may call you (your number) listed on the booking or provide another number (your dad) when they arrive, and he comes along and gets in. The chauffeur company would not care as long as the passenger complies with baggage and time etc.

Hi, a related question, If you are travelling from Singapore Business with QF (first time) are you eligible to get a chauffeur to drive you home. Melbourne. Can you book this through the app or do you have to ring QF CS to do so?

Thanks all! I probably won't take the risk. It just seems such a waste
