I was originally booked to fly QF33 (SYD-KIX) on Monday 17 Sep 18, but received news a few days ago from QF that the flight was cancelled due to Osaka Kansai Airport being partially out of action due to Typhoon Jebi (affecting the operation of the main Terminal 1 and Runway "A" (06R/24L))
They offered my a replacement flight....on "QF21" to Narita. I took a double take, given that the QF21 flight number was phased out a few years go (replaced by the SYD <->HND QF 25/26 when Qantas commenced their super convenient flights into Tokyo Haneda). It seems they have resurrected this flight number for special flights from SYD to NRT to replace QF33!
I'm curious to know if anyone else is travelled on the temporarily resurrected "QF21" service this coming week?
KIX has now re-opened Terminal 1 and resumed use of Runway A / 06R/24L, but is operating well below full capacity. Hopefully they will continue to expand their operations soon. There are also plans to use the older Osaka Itami (ITM) and nearby Kobe (UKB) airports for some international flights until KIX regains full capacity, but I don't think this plan has been implemented yet.
