Either they should check the weights every time or never so you know what to expect. Agree 7kg is completely unrealistic unless you're a salesperson with a case full of bubble wrap samples
Very recently MEL to BNE had a seat mate who looked like he placed all of his worldly possessions in the overhead locker. Conversation started with me asking why he didn't check his bags. "Takes to long" he responded. I suggested that he obviously didn't care that he held up the boarding of a whole aircraft while he found space for his large, heavy carry-ons. "No, he said", "I don't care". Got to BNE, got straight up and walked to the door. Looking back, the aisle was empty while he removed all his bags blocking everyone behind him. I collected my bag from the carousel and said goodbye to him waiting in the taxi line which would have taken 20 minutes to reach the front. I reckon, using the train, I was in the city before he left the airport. So much for "takes too long"!
Mmmmm I have often wondered about my safety if the Captain is doing his calcs of safe takeoff weight up front based on population averages plus 7kg carry on per person when a large percentage of passengers are taking on board maybe 12 kg and the number & size of "portly persons" in recent years is growing dramatically.
There have been a number of planes that have crashed on takeoff attributed to planes being overweight.
On Domestic flights you have to wonder why boarding staff would be weighing bags for a 2 hour flight.
And most bags are carry on size but maybe with an extra bit of clothing inside etc but mainly business passengers who are travelling for a day or two. What happens at the domestic gate if the bag is over? On SE Asian International flights they will check it at the gate and you collect it with other checked bags. In the US, I've seen passengers carry a mini fridge on as carry on. In Singapore the little old guys grab you before you enter Immigration and weigh it. They take their work very seriously lol. On one International flight I watched a cabin crew member drag the boarding attendant onto the plane and severely chastise her in front of all the passengers to the point were the captain came out of the cockpit and told the CSM if you don't get the ground staff off the plane they will miss their spot and the take off will be delayed. Now that was interesting to watch. Sounds like much to do about nothing
I agree on the US comment - I've never seen so much carry on being able to be bought on board as what I see consistently in the US - it's crazy, far too much. Even worse in winter when you add all the heavy coats.
Generally speaking, I think we have the right 'balance' here sans the odd airline 'sheriff'!
Happy for them to rigorously enforce the volume but a few kg here or there is surely not worth it?

I'm more than happy for Carry-On to be policed more strictly but I wish the limit for FF's and the Premium Cabin was a more realistic 10Kg.

Quite right too. So many PAX abuse the weight limit for carry on.

I actually agree, and would like to se this applied to all flights. Many take advantage, and totally fill the overhead bins.
