According to the below linked, short answer No. Can’t purchase a VA codeshare flight BNE-LAX with an SQ flight number.
“Can I earn KrisFlyer Elite Miles on Virgin Australia? KrisFlyer members can earn Elite Miles when travelling on a Singapore Airlines codeshare operated by Virgin Australia”

Singapore Airlines have two different types of "miles"

Elite Miles are the ones used to gain status. These Elite miles can only be earned on Virgin Australia operated flights that have also been booked with a SQ (Singapore Airlines) flight number and only on flights within Australia, Trans Tasman, and the Pacific islands.

Currently it's only possilbe to book these SQ codeshare Virgin Australia operated flights when booked in conjuction with a Singapore airlines flight (to/from Singapore or Welington to Melbourne). As a result, you wouldn't earn any Elite miles you could use towards earning Star Alliance Gold.

You would however earn "Krisflyer miles" which can be used towards award tickets etc. A Business Class ticket would earn 14336 krisflyer miles oneway (enough for a one-way economy flight anywhere within QLD, NSW, SA, TAS, VIC and ACT).

On one of my flight, VAd SYD - ADL I "thought" it was a good idea, to put in my SQ KF# into the VFF booking flight page drop down menu, just to see how many KF points I would earn, after the trip, the claim got denied/rejected.

Even if I had earnt a mere 164 KF points, I would have been satisfied at least the agreement between the 2 airlines worked.
But KF denied/rejected the claim.
I think that one side or the other is very selective on earning points between the 2, ie VFF and KF.
Only way I can think of it, in the OP's case, is to keep earning VFF points and SC, and then transfer the VFF points to KF, yes, I know its not a 1:1, but much better than having a points claim denied/rejected.
The OP's KF account in this case would still rise by quite a tidy sum, flying from Au - US in J.
Better than to keep checking KF account, and then getting an email after the flight, that the points claim got denied/rejected, and then all the maonings start.
