Hi all. I'm flying BNE-SYD-HNL return with Qantas next week. I've always flown direct for overseas flights so I'm wondering how baggage works with a domestic connection. Upon returning from Honolulu, would I need to collect my baggage in Sydney and pass through Customs before rechecking it at the domestic terminal or would it be checked right through to Brisbane? I've posed the question to Qantas but they're a bit slow in replying. Thanks.

Assuming all the same ticket, bags will be checked through to HNL in BNE. No need to collect in SYD on the outbound. Just get to the QF transfer bus at T3 Gate 15 and head over to T1 then through immigration.

Inbound, you will have to collect bags in SYD after arriving from HNL and recheck them after clearing customs. There is a QF connections area in international arrivals where you can drop bags, get rebooked if needed and get the QF bus over to T3.

In HNL, they will check and tag your bag to BNE, with SYD listed as a transit port. When you get off the plane in SYD, you need to collect your bag, go through customs, then recheck your bag to BNE. You only give it to them, showing your ?BNE boarding pass. You then do another security check, before catching the airport transfer bus to the Domestic terminal. This is all assuming it is on Qantas.
