Hang on people. Are we frustrated by the weight you can carry on or the amount of bags/size of the carry on. I can easily load my little back up to be 7kgs+ but it's one bag. I don't care about the weight of your bags... I care about the amount you carry on. Oh, I hope they weigh the flight attendants bags that are stuffed into the over head compartmentstoo.... after all this is about safety right?

Separate question, if VA/QF force you to check in your bag, and said bag includes a laptop/Mac/Tablet etc, and they get damaged, are the airlines liable?

I just bought myself a portable baggage weighing scale in Singapore. I'm sure it will come in handy upon my return to Sydney.

I get sick of seeing the passenger walking down the aisle with a roll on, over sized handbag, backpack and computer case. They can hardly carry it, and get cranky when they can't find space in the bin. i'd be happy to see an allocated bin space per seat - about the size of the roll on suitcases. If it don't fit in, it goes down below.

In the USA there seems to be no limit on weight in the cabin. They can't be very safety conscious there!

I just did a return flight from Melbourne to JFK with the domestic leg in economy on Delta - thank God I have Gold VA status and could get priority boarding. There were people easily taking on 2 bags EACH being 7kg. It was insane watching the poor hosties trying to squeeze massive bags into the overhead bins. And the only real policing was a polite offer of free checked in bags at the gate to help reduce the load in the plane...
