Hi All
travelling on BA from lyon to heathrow in economy. Family of 4, I am a Qantas platinum. we will only have 3 bags but one of these (guess whose) is likely to be over the 23kg, but less than 30 kg. How rigorous are BA with this weight limit ( most other one worlds offer >30kg to platinums) I don't really want to have 4 bags unless they force me to!

According to British Airway's website, your OneWorld Emerald (QF Platinum) status entitles you to the following:
One additional checked bag in any travel class
For everyone in your booking, except on hand baggage only (Basic) fares*
A weight allowance of 32kg (70lb) per checked bag
More information can be found on BA's site about this.
Regarding your question, since I assume you're not on a Basic fare, each person in your booking will have a 32kg allowance per checked bag so that will be plenty comfortable for your suitcase.

From a recent trip it seems like the carry-on allowance is at least 32kg, well at least my two bags added up to that (camera gear). I haven't had any issues in the past.
