I am currently travelling in China my bag was delayed by Qantas now into 4th day. I have received 300 dollars from them and wasted countless hours trying to chase my bag and get clothes etc.

Should I be receiving any other compensation? I flew and paid for Business class, just wondering if this has happened to others and what I should do or expect.

Airlines will typically cover you for essentials. You should talk to your insurer to see what they will offer. In my experience thy have generally been more generous.

On this topic, my case has been completely lost, I have travel insurance, they have asked for original receipts for proof of ownership. I have no receipts for my clothes, who would? I have Gold level cover so surely people cant be expected to have proof of ownership.

Should i expect additional compensation from the airline? (Royal Jordanian....who have been terrible to deal with)

I haven't even had a call from Qantas not one. I haven't bothered my insurance company yet.

Under the international conventions that govern this, a bag is not considered 'lost' until it has been missing 21 days. For the first 21 days you can claim first needs from the airline. Each airline is different but expect them to cover toiletries and basic clothing but not much more.

If your bag is lost, the maximum payout is generally only around $2000.
Your travel insurance may have a more generous policy.

Will travel insurance pay out if you have received compensation for delayed baggage from the airline?

There's no reason travel insurance won't still provide coverage for lost luggage (assuming the claim is valid/accepted), however you won't be able to double dip. ie if you're given $x from an airline and you replace something that was lost with that money, then you won't technically be able to claim it.

I was looking at delayed luggage rather than lost luggage - Etihad took seven days to get my luggage to me after flying ADL-MEL-AUH-LHR for Xmas and my bag ended up travelling via SIN on Qantas! Still waiting to hear from Etihad on the level of compensation......

Whereabouts in China are you? Did you fly into HKG, PVG or PEK? Do you have your baggage receipt from when you checked in?

John I flew into HKG. Yes have the baggage tag number apparantly the tag fell off in ADL. I am only in Shenzhen. It finally has turned up this morning. I was amazed not one phone call from Qantas to follow up if received or to let me know its on the way.

This is a common tactic from insurers. If you don't have receipts, make a statutory declaration of contents and approximate cost when new - plus approx dates purchased and cost to replace today (if possible). Remember to include cost of the suitcase. If your claim is rejected, go to a small claims tribunal. You have provided the "best available" evidence, the company has no proof otherwise, you'll usually win something meaningful.

tommygun's advice is good but in Victoria for someone to go to VCAT, one now has to formally serve documents on the other party and there is an application fee. It's not as casual as it once was, sadly. You may be able to apply for costs if successful.

Finally got a reply stating they contacted me the next day and paid me $300 on the 11th. I chased them and no one ever returned a call. Abysmal service and dont give a attitude.

Wasted 1 day of work chasing these @#$% over em.
Last straw for me with QF over to VA.
