Am in USA at present and must admit pleasantly surprised by lounge access at both LAX and San Diego so far simply as a QC member/OW Ruby. My research was clearly flawed as thought no entry but just had to show QC card and AA boarding pass and got into Admirals at LAX and Airpsace at SD . Now these may not be great lounges per se but are comfortable and quiet. The whole OW Ruby status OS seems better in a way than the Qantas Silver in Aust. Priority boarding , free bag
You got lounge access to the Admirals club when flying American due to your Qantas Club membership. OW ruby still doesn't offer this but I agree, benefits have gotten more consistent.
Yep, the access is only because of your Qantas Club membership, as Qantas and American Airlines have a reciprocal access arrangement between Admirals Club and Qantas Club (so AA's members can visit Qantas' lounges, and Qantas' members can visit AA's lounges).
Doesn't apply to other Oneworld partners though, so no access to BA, Cathay, JAL lounges etc - except where they're the designated 'Qantas associated lounge' prior to a Qantas flight.
Before we attained Gold we were amazed at the entry into Lounges on our QC Card gained us in US - really good. Even into the AA Lounge at Heathrow, which is truly an excellent Lounge. Our daughter flies to Seattle for work, and her QC card gets her into Alaskan Airlines lounges as well.
