We have stopped even getting quotes and never take out insurance anywhere except RACQ (or whatever it's called outside Queensland) as their rates are reasonable and I know I'll be talking with an Aussie if I have to phone. Have a couple of conditions and they have been great. When we had a claim there were no problems - and being able to talk to someone within Australia is worth gold!

This is something I have also had issues with. One option, if you have private health insurance, is to check their cover offering - sometime this can simplify pre-existing conditions, depending on where you travel. I've also used RAA in SA, and was pleasantly surprised

I've had similar issues. But now I have insurance cover through my Amex Platinum. The card fee is less than my insurance quotes.

A lot depends on your age, length of travel and what countries you travel to. The US is a must for travel insurance even though your credit card may provide you cover as well. ICover is good, so is SCTI (Southern Cross). I found going through "Making a Claim" helpful. One company I used would only allow a small amount of data to uploaded for a claim. This meant pics of my receipts from my mobile weren't accepted as they were too large. Even on the computer I had to reformat them. An hassle that wasn't needed at the time. I had no problem with Covermore in that area. Also, if you have travel insurance from a credit card the other insurer will seek from them to pay part of your claim so good to have that credit card insurance, that may help with the acceptance of the claim.

Thanks all, for those interested InsureandGo offered the best premium from the three insurers contacted.

Insure& go user here as well. Found them much easier to deal with than others. Have used Covermore in the past but then they decided to limit my cover to $50k for any medical coverage, which is practically worthless in the USA.
