I am travelling from Sydney to Tokyo on Qantas QF21 on Saturday, any ideas as to whether this will be a refurbished 747 or not?

You might get lucky, however it is not one of the advertised routes for the refurbished planes

The seat map is showing an unrefurbished three class aircraft.

Friend of mine flew route yesterday and it was an old bird. I have heard that every now and then a refurbished plane is put on the route.

Rather than take a chance, why not book with JL (I think you still get Status Points), plus their J offering is pretty good.

The ticket was bought by someone else, I was hoping that I would fly JL. I am just glad I am not on jetstar. Thanks everyone for the quick replies.

just messaged qantas on facebook, to check they said all their 747s are refurbished, I don't think that is quite true.

David - do you mind sharing whether your flight was in fact in a refurbed 747? Am planning on doing QF21 on a Friday soon.

It was not refurbished however the old seats are quite comfortable the only problem I had was with the entertainment unit. Both QF21 and QF22 were good flights. Sorry for the late reply.

I just flew QF21 and was surprised that they had not yet upgraded the skybed to the mark ii. Interestingly the front of the lower deck had what appeared to be old first class seats although were not sold as such as they were available for business class tickets. Needless to say I have changed my seat preferences as skybed mark i don't cut the mustard these days
