I have a heap of altitude points (1.5mil+) that i cant for the life of me decide what to do with. The procrastination lead to me not doing anything while the devaluation gained earlier this year.

With the current bonus points offer I'm considering transferring them to velocity.

Only issue is I'm Qantas gold and have no status with virgin. How easy area redemptions on VA flights for someone without status? We have two children so we would use the points to travel as a family with in Australia and maybe Thailand or Bali. Is there any opportunities to book reward flights in school holidays without status.

Im about to reach gold again with Qantas and Im thinking i will then switch all work travel to virgin in an aim to get silver quickly so I can then purchase lounge access without the joining fee.

Velocity don't limit reward seats by status, so you'll have the same chance of seeing seats as a Platinum member.

Redemptions are typically easy for travel within Australia, even for four people, but as usual you need to book early for peak periods and school holidays.

It's a bit harder for international with VA's limited network. Bali might be okay because it flies there, but places like Thailand would be booked on Singapore Airlines.

For those trips, KrisFlyer might be a better option, since SQ availability on Velocity is more limited than booking through KrisFlyer.

I'd send them to SQ and use them for business class travel to Europe.

Once converted to KrisFlyer miles they can be used to book any star alliance carrier
