I have recently moved to Mexico City and might have scored a status match between QFF and Aeromexico which will be good. Nevertheless, we will be doing some travel to Canada and I wanted to know who the best Star Alliance airline was. We have booked a couple of trips with Air Canada (never flown them before) and do not have a Star Alliance membership with any airline. Thoughts?
I think you mean which star alliance frequent flyer program is the best? Well, in that part of the world, it will either be United MileagePlus or Air Canada Aeroplan. Honestly, star alliance doesn't have a huge presence in Mexico so just choose one that you like!
Benefit of Air Canada is you gain access to United lounges as Star Alliance Gold flying united on domestic flights in US, however as a United Mileage Plus you don't get access to United lounges unless you pay for lounge membership. This is only relevant if you are flying in the US on United. United Gold would get you into Maple Leaf lounge on all flights.
Again depends on your flying habits.

Fly Air Canada as its always better than UA and credit your miles to Mileage Plus ( I'm Oz based, but been a member for 30 years).

You can status match to United Gold, then think about crediting to a low requirement carrier such as Asiana depending on your travel load.
