This will be the first of the next batch of 787s. There may be more announcements on the Summer schedule coming up with the new plane(s). Note as the 787 bases are either in Melbourne or Brisbane it will have to fit in with their schedules.
Noticing this change comes into effect pretty much the same time SYD/SFO/SYD changes from 747 to 787 (give or take a day or two), therefore assuming given the times of SFO arrival and departures into SYD this is to keep the aircraft operational rather than sitting on the ground for the day in SYD

QF will today publish a B789 service between SYD and AKL, commencing 04DEC19 to 28MAR20.
This allows for frame utilisation until enough aircraft arrive to operate BNEORD and BNESFO.
