Looking for advice on how to obtain a breakdown of points in AU$.
Recently (May 2019) had to cancel a hotel booking via Qantas Hotels and a flight with Virgin all booked on points, which my travel insurance provider will cover as part of my claim, dependent on a monetary value of the points or loss of points from Qantas and Virgin.
Ive spent a lot of time on phone calls and emails with Qantas and Virgin and i've had responses such as: "We cant provide it and attach a monetary value to it", to "We can provide it but our tax invoice team on shore will provide in 5 days via email". (That last one was promised multiple times weeks ago). To this date I havent received any breakdown - just a nervous breakdown!
In short, will this monetary conversion be forthcoming and is there any recourse I have if it isnt?
I suspect they will not give it out as the points in some sense are a currency in and of itself, which I doubt Insurance companies will recognise. Only qantas knows the exact value of the points for that booking and that will depend on who they sold them to.
Several Insurers quote what monetary value they place on cancelled redemption bookings. I have also read an anecdote from one claimant, who submitted that it would cost him $X to buy the FF poiints from the airline, and the insurer paid out.
Qantas reserves the right to change how much top-up points cost, and pricing is not publicly listed on the Qantas Frequent Flyer website. So we've done the hard work and compiled a complete list of the current points prices below.
