I am traveling to the US in September and I am yet to book a return flight from SFO to MIA. Given the recent news of the joint venture, should I wait to make this booking? Is it likely that an increased status earn is going to be announced immanently?
Additionally, this is a leisure trip so I am likely to book SFO to MIA in economy. As a QF gold (partner is silver) it seems basic economy is a good option as appears to ticketed as N class which still earns the same as main cabin economy. Our status will still give us free bags. Does anyone have any advice on this?
Qantas did say they will move on this fairly quickly so may be worth waiting. As it is a separate AA booking though the difference may not be that great. The difference will be in the international/domestic connections and codeshares.
I am curious about the N class observation. All of the basic economy flights I looked up come up as B class when using the AA.com US website which would normally not earn anything on QFF. It might be different if you book it through the AA.com Australian web site? I noticed when looking up that same flight (SFO-MIA) on the Australian AA website the fare basis I got was
L3AJZNB1
It doesn't look like the Australian AA site lists the fare bucket explicitly like the AA US website. Does anyone know if the first letter always guarantees the fare bucket (L class in this example)?
Thanks Donatello. I was using the aa.com Australia site. I assumed that it was the first letter that corresponded with the fare bucket, so I may be wrong. The Basic fares that came up weren’t too much cheaper anyway. Does basic economy have a few fare classes?
I still haven’t booked, I might wait another week or so in case anything is announced.
