Dubai accommodation. Have 2 nights there on the way back from London to Sydney, and am contemplating the InterContinental Fetival City. I know there are some superb hotels, but as its a personal cost, I dont want to spend 3 arms and two legs. Any thoughts?
It really depends what you are intending to do those 3 days. If you prefer old Dubai try to get a room at the Dubai Creek area (Sheraton, Radisson Blu, Hilton). Area is close to Dubai Airport.
If you are more into beach then go towards Jumeirah (often more expensive). The metro system is rather good though and runs along Sheik Zayed Rd and will get you from one end to the city to another in comfort and cheap (Dubai Internet City is station to get off for Palm and Mall of Emirates if you want to go to the Burj). Again, if you prefer the beach, try to get any accommodation in / near Dubai Marina (Le Meridien, Hilton, or Sheraton).
Finally you can opt to stay in the middle, on / near Sheik Zayed (servcied apts). This way it is an easy commute by metro (runs from and to airport as well) to both old Dubai as Jumeirah and Marina. Taxi's are relatively inexpensive as well.
I always find that there are also many serviced apts available across Dubai for a reasonable price (even for two nights). Not sure if you are specifically looking for a chain hotel?
