I lived in Perth until a couple of years ago but I only drove north as far as Geraldton; if I needed to go further north I flew. I don't know how familiar you are with WA so forgive me if you already know this, but driving in country WA isn't like driving "over east": you stop where you can as there are far fewer options. I would say that Geraldton is the obvious place to stop for the first night up in any case. Sorry I can't help you with stops any further north.
You should also consider driving up along the coast rather than inland. The coast is magnificent and any town on the coast is a good option. You could also take in The Pinnacles which is definitely worth seeing, and Cervantes or Jurien Bay are nice places to stop.
For an utterly surreal experience, consider having a look at Wedge, though it's probably no place for a caravan.

Hi all,
I am planning to take a trip to the Ningaloo Reef with my family from Perth in a caravan. Could you please list the best places to stop.

Learmonth airport is closest and there is a bus that meets the plane to Exmouth the hopping off point to the reef.
