Planning a trip to New York and Paris this year and am very keen to use a 'Round-the-world' ticket. Very happy to fly Qantas through to New York, and then Openskies across to Paris. However heres the question. I would much rather fly Emirates/Qantas back to Australia rather than the standard OneWorld Malaysian or Cathay options. My question is does a Qantas Round-the-world ticket only limit you to OneWorld carriers, or does it include alliance partners such as Emirates?
Qantas's online Round-the-World planner is limited only to oneworld airlines. However, if you were to call Qantas Telephone Sales, I think they should be able to accommodate your request.
Hi Tom01, sounds like a good trip! As Viran says, Qantas' RTW is based on oneworld but I think Qantas should be able to help you out, especially if you can choose Emirates flights that are codeshared with Qantas, because those will still count in a oneworld trip. But MAS and CX are pretty good for business class, especially CX if you get their latest business class and not the older 'cubicles'.
My thoughts exactly. Just for simplicity sake though it'd be nice to fly Qantas as much as possible. As much as people disagree, they offer a pretty high product.
Official rules on the one world fares is only oneworld carriers can be used and the only codeshares permitted are those on other oneworld carriers - with the exception being Jetstar. You cannot use Qantas flights operated by Emirates on the OneWorld fare
I would be surprised if Qantas "overlooked" that rule - as Emirates would bill Qantas for those legs. On these alliance round world fares the airlines involved have a formula for billing each other for the legs of the fare they actually carry you on
If you are looking at stopping in the Dubai area on the way back you could do a one world carrier from Europe to Dubai and then Qantas back to Australia
There is a set of old EK RTW fares that I found on ExpertFlyer, valid for flights on EK/TN (Air Tahiti Nui) I think they're still valid though they are a bit on the steep side (3.3k in economy, 14.4k in business and 19k in first).
I've just booked a RTW itinerary: SYD-DFW-LHR-DXB-SYD, flying QF/BA/QF. The Qantas RTW link takes you to the OW booking system which excludes EK flights even if they are QF-codeshared. You can also book RTW fares using the Multi-city link which allows QF-codeshared/Emirates-metal flights as well.
