I am travelling with 2 small kids soon and I think it would be easier just to park the car at the airport rather than have to cart luggage and car seats.
I would like to get some opinions from fellow travelers who have parked their cars at P7 .
Would you recommend it ?
Have you found it easy to find a spot in the non guaranteed car spaces ?
Used P7 myself a few months back for much the same reason as you. We flew out to NZ on the first Monday morning of the last school holidays and had no issue finding a spot in the non reserved section.
Getting to the terminal was easy, car seats out (because we took them with us because we could and to save $100 in hire car costs in NZ) baggage onto a trolley which were plentiful in the carpark and at checkin within 5 mins of parking.
On arrival much the same. Far better and faster than getting a shuttle to cheaper places in Mascot.
With kids, P7 is best. Being reluctant to enrich the airport any more than is necessary I often park over at Mascot (plenty of unrestricted places) and take a taxi or other to T1.
Big caveat though is the access roads into T1. They are often what cause people to miss their flights especially at peak times (mornings on weekends). Warning: Do not use the Marsh Street exit from the M5 or via the tunnel under the runway (General Holmes Drive). Rather, take a right off Southern Cross Drive and pass the Domestic Terminals using Qantas Drive.
We use it several times a year, just back from a month trip. That gets expensive, but still not as much as the dog kennels, our other big predeparture expense.
