Can anyone tell me, do you have to take the flight to get QF points . I have a MEL-SYD return booked with double status credits. I need the SC to make it to Gold but don't really want to fly . Do I get the points if I don't board the flight ?
Unfortunately, given your reluctance to fly, the short version is no. You will need to take the eligible flight to get the status credits. Qantas has actually covered this as part of the ‘extend status' announcement in their website (it is at the bottom of that statement).
I'm confused about the wording on the status extension site:
"If I booked a flight under the February 2020 Double Status Credits offer and I am no longer travelling, will Qantas honour the Qantas Points and Status Credit earn? No. Qantas Points and Status Credits will only be awarded for eligible flights flown."
I booked an international flight ( 2 x business class tickets) and as I booked an eligible flight at the time but the flight has been cancelled due to the route (via Singapore) changing it seems to me that an 'eligible' flight begins when I step onto the plane to fly, not when an eligible flight has been cancelled.
To be honest if the double credits don't apply I will cancel flight and bring back the money into my company rather than tie it up in a QANTAS voucher as there is no value in that for my company.
It's very silly of QANTAS to not honour its double status credits promotion - it seems like the cheapest and easiest thing they could do right now to retain money and draw interest from the cash at hand.
Can anyone confirm that the
- "if I am no longer travelling" relates to people who request a voucher instead of cancelling and
- if the "eligible flights flown" means ONLY the flight that was booked at the time of the Status Credits offer?
Everyone, I don't get it, there is a significant health crisis going on and worrying about double status points etc would suggest the message is not getting through.
1. People are going to die because of people's poor choices, check the list of flights and seating on NSW Health page of confirmed COVID-19 positive tests, this is a significant concern. (Chris suggest this should be pasted on this site to assist distribution of the list.)
2. I hope there are no more deaths associated with COVID-19, I know that this is misguided though...
3. Lets hope there is an airline industry in 6-12 months to have the discussion about double status points and actually flying somewhere for either work or pleasure.
4. While status points are important sometimes there are probably more important things to worry today, like your families, communities and yourself.
I understand that you are concerned and that this may result in you panicking about my health and the health of others which is how your email reads, but this is a site where people can ask questions about travel, not receive Coronavirus updates or lectures from members.
At no point did I say I would fly and at no point did I recommend that anyone should. Like everyone who has the ability to be, I am at home at least for the next two weeks ensuring that I don't infect you or anyone else.
My question is legitimate for this site and I'm really happy if you have an answer for it. Otherwise, I appreciate your first reply and hope that you and your loved one remain safe and well during this unusual time.

As requested! I'm ‘telling' you not to fly.
I'm Perth based and do 50+ Flights E/W per year.
It's time to stay home buddy!
