I was under the impression that Melbourne-Perth-Melbourne was exclusively a330 for VA every flight, every day of the week. I just made a booking for a Melbourne to Perth flight in June to find that only one of the flights on the day (a Saturday, mid month) is a330, the rest were listing 737. Is this normal? Or should I still be expecting an a330 and there's an error in the system somewhere?
Either way I have to fly on that day and at that time so I'll take whatever aircraft gets me there, but as I'm flying business I'd much rather fly an a330 business class than a 737 business class. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Hi Seven, I think VA and QF promise A330 flights for weekday coast to coast services. A330 on weekends depends on the demand and the scheduling of flights by the respective airlines. Unfortunately, while there are occasional A330 flights on weekends but most of them aren't.

Thanks for that Waynec. As I said, I was just under the impression that all flights Melb-Perth were a330 with Virgin. A-la:

But your answer makes sense. Disappointing, but makes sense. And mitchimus, unfortunately the flight I'm booked onto is the only one my schedule permits, if I'd had a choice (knowing what I now know) I would have definitely booked a different flight. Oh well.
How's the coast-to-coast on the 737? I've flown it several times in business on the a330. Obviously not comparible, but still decent enough?

No worries mate. 737 day flights are fine. The only bad part is if you are trying to sleep in the recliner seat, it's far less comfortable than the lie flat seats on the A330.
