Hi all,

I am from Melbourne, and i am planning to visit Vivid Sydney in early August.

I am interested in staying at W Sydney when it opens, but does anyone know the opening date ?

Thank you.

What bit of W Sydney opening are you referring to. I can’t think of anything that is closed.

The Ribbon in Darling Harbour, which will house the new W hotel, isn't due to open until Q2, 2022.

given the builder went bust and it is now restarting again - it is a long way off still. I walk past it most days and it has been the slowest building site in Sydney with hardly a worker to be seen.

What esquire wrote is spot on. They started demolishing the old imax building end of 2016/very start of 2017, and it has been extremely extremely slow to move forward (it's going to be 5 years minimum until they're done, assuming they can be done by end of 2021, and it's possible that it may not be). It's become a running family thing every time we walk past to see how little has changed, see how few staff are there, and comment on how progress seems glacial... August 2022 seems possible, but August 2021 seems like a pipe-dream IMHO, so suggest booking somewhere else (that y'know, is located inside an already constructed building and is open and trading). Ovolo Pyrmont & Ibis Sydney Darling Harbour are both very near to that location & would give you easy access to the waterfront for Vivid (I've omitted the Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour as it's currently being used for hotel quarantine travellers, and I'd guess likely will be for all of 2021) - or try somewhere in the city.

Thank you everyone for the helpful replies.

Hi Nickj, thank you for the hotel suggestions too. I will most likely book the Sofitel Darling Harbour for my trip.

Hello Desafinado74

Many thanks for asking the question about the opening date of the W Sydney.

I am the appointed General Manager and recently started the pre opening process and we are due to open out doors in the 2 quarter of 2022.

Bringing such an iconic W to the Sydney market during these times is not easy, but I can assure that when we are open, the wait will have been worth it.

Unfortunately we won’t be able to welcome you in August this year, but in 2022 we will be ready to roll out the carpet if plans bring you back to Sydney for Vivid.

Regards

Craig
