Converting your Commonwealth Awards points into Virgin Australia Velocity frequent flyer points is one of the best things you can do with your CBA balance.

It’s a simple task: just login to NetBank, click the ‘Awards’ icon next to your points-earning credit card, select ‘redeem travel’ and then ‘Velocity and Qantas Frequent Flyer’:

Then, enter how many Commonwealth Awards points you’d like to send across and hit ‘calculate’ to see how many Velocity frequent flyer points you’d get at the end of the day:

If you’re happy with that, click ‘redeem’, enter your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number and then tap ‘submit’.

For Platinum Awards and Diamond Awards cardholders, you’ll get one Velocity point for every two Awards points converted, while Awards and Gold Awards customers need a higher 2.5 Awards points for every one Velocity point.

However shiny your card, you’ll need to convert a minimum of 3,600 Awards points at a time, with higher transfers allowed in further increments of 1,000 Awards points.

At the top of the credit card chain, that minimum transfer of 3,600 Awards points would net 1,800 Velocity points, while for Awards and Gold Awards members, 3,600 Awards points translates into 1,440 Velocity points.

There’s no upper limit to the number of Awards points you can ship across to Velocity Frequent Flyer, although remember that all Commonwealth Awards credit cards impose a cap on how many Awards points you can earn in each calendar year.

I'm guessing that's meant to be 1 Velocity point per 2 Awards points for Platinum and Diamond and 1 Velocity point per 2.5 Awards points for Gold and 'Regular'.

A shame that earning isn't what it used to be - no more ATO, lower Awards/$ rates on most of the cards and such.

Worth waiting until they have the extra percentages, 3 or 4 times a year.

Hi NickyD, these days the promotions for CBA members happen about once per year – CBA was excluded from the last promotional 15% transfer offer – but absolutely, if you don't need the points straight away, consider transferring them across when there's an extra incentive to do so.
