If you have the American Express Platinum Charge Card, you can quickly elevate yourself to Gold status in the Hilton Honors program: unlocking perks like free daily breakfast, space-available room upgrades and more, at hotels such as Hilton, Waldorf Astoria, Conrad and DoubleTree by Hilton.

However, this shiny status doesn’t come automatically – you’ll need to opt-in and key in a few details, so here’s what needs to be done.

Requesting your Hilton Honors Gold card

Begin by logging into your online banking account on the American Express Australia website: or if you don’t yet have an AMEX online account, click the ‘New Registration’ option on the homepage, set up an account, and then log in.

Once inside, click on the Benefits & Help tab, and then go to Platinum Benefits:

(If you don’t see “Platinum Benefits” on the menu, you may have multiple American Express cards registered to the same account. If so, just click on your Platinum card at the top right of the screen, and try again.)

On the next page, scroll down to the Hotels tab, and click on the word “enrolment”, which is actually faster than clicking on the “Hilton Honors Gold” text above it, which adds an extra step:

This opens a new window – simply scroll down until you see the Hilton Honors Gold Status option, and click the big blue Enrol button:

A box will appear asking for your mailing address, email address and your existing Hilton Honors account number if you’re already a member – so plug these in, click Confirm, and your request will be underway:

Back at the “enrolment” page, you’ll be able to monitor the progress of your request: this will show in red if there’s an issue that needs your attention, as pending if it’s still being processed…

… or with a big green tick if you’re all set:

Your Gold status will also be reflected on the Hilton Honors website and mobile app...

... and once you’re Gold, you can begin enjoying the many benefits of your status by booking direct with Hilton and attaching your Hilton Honors membership number to your future Hilton hotel bookings, or providing it at check-in.

Even if you don't have any Hilton stays planned right now, there's no harm in requesting your Gold status anyway, because the request takes time to process, and by getting this done early, your status will then be ready to use in the future, should you need it.

Don’t already have an AMEX Platinum Charge Card and want your own fast-track to Hilton Honors Gold, along with other perks like SPG Gold and Shangri-La Golden Circle Jade? You can apply here.

Does the Gold Status remain as long as you hold the card? i.e. not just year 1 or similar. If so assume you'd have to opt in each year?

It's an ongoing partnership between Hilton and AMEX. AMEX keeps your Hilton Honors membership number on file, and Hilton knows that you're an AMEX Platinum cardholder, so your status is valid either until you cancel your Platinum card, or until the partnership between the two companies is cancelled (should that ever happen). The Hilton Honors site and app may indicate that next year you'll be Blue or Silver, depending on how many stays you've made, but you should remain at Gold. (If not, just give AMEX a call.)

if your a frequent traveler, its the best card you can get

Along with Hhonors, you also get SPG Gold, and if you link your Marriott rewards, you get upped to Gold too, which then allows you to do a stay challenge to get you to Platinum (then both SPG and Marriott rewards are upped to Plat)

If you fly to smaller airports in Aisa, ME, you get free access to Priority lounges, some arnt great, but some are pretty good when your transiting more remote places.

Pretty good points earning 2points for just about everything....gate rewards is the highest with Amex, so 1:1 with all major airlines, etc

Also many parts of Asia the Plat charge charge card is still invite only from Amex, so its seen as quite a staus symbol at restaurants, hotels, etc -
