AMEX debuts flagship Centurion Lounge at New York JFK

American Express has a new flagship Centurion Lounge in its network, with the company unveiling its two-storey palazzo at New York’s JFK Airport this week.

Measuring at 1,400 square metres, it’s the first Centurion Lounge to span two levels, and is situated in Terminal 4 – a major hub for Delta Air Lines, as well being used by some JetBlue flights, and a raft of international carriers including Emirates, Etihad, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and more.

Central to the lounge is a speakeasy-style bar, named ‘1850’ in a nod to the company’s founding year.

Tucked away behind a discreet copper-panelled wall, the space emulates the Prohibition era, with a cocktail menu loaded with modern versions of classic cocktails, designed by Centurion Lounge mixologist Jim Meehan.

For the more active traveller, the lounge’s Equinox Body Lab offers self-guided meditation and stretching sessions, as well as a vibro-acoustic chair for relaxation.

On the dining front, buffet fare is replaced by served meals for the time being – curated by Executive Chef Ignacio Mattos – with the lounge’s style also taking inspiration from its city surroundings and local history.

“Like many of our customers we are proud to call New York City our home, and we are thrilled to have another lounge in our backyard,” said AMEX Vice President of Travel Experiences and Benefits, Alexander Lee.

“We are excited for our customers to have another one-of-a-kind experience to enjoy when we see more people return to their travels,” adds Roel Huinink, President and CEO of JFK International Air Terminal – the operator of Terminal 4 in which the lounge is located.

Rounding out the facility are rooms tailor-made for working and relaxing, as well as shower suites. However, showers will remain unavailable for the time being, due to COVID-19.

The Centurion Lounge welcomes American Express Platinum Charge Card and Centurion Card members from any country, including Australia, as well as Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card customers from the United States.

While AMEX had shuttered its Centurion Lounges earlier this year, its facilities in Seattle and Philadelphia have now re-opened, with those in Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and San Francisco on-track to open by the end of October.

As previously reported, New York’s LaGuardia Airport is also set for a brand new Centurion Lounge in Terminal B, being twice the size of the existing space.

Is it pre-security or post security?   Use to like the Swiss and Etihad and ElAl and other PPass lounges pre-security in T4 JFK   Then they moved them post-security and rendered useless unless you are departing from T4 JFK?  Wow looks like it has a few more showers that that horrible Amex Lounge at SFO - you have to wait a few hours for a shower   rendering it useless   and nasty nasty Lounge Dragons - but hey its SFO

This lounge is post-security; adjacent to A4.

The sentence about JetBlue is a bit misleading. B6 operates from T5, which is not connected airside to T4. B6 pax will not be able to access this lounge.
